“BELLA GAIA is a live concert that mixes music, dance, & NASA immersive imagery that turns the stage planetary. Sublime and Transcendental” – Village Voice
BELLA GAIA is a live multi-media theater experience that communicates—without words—the BEAUTY of the planet both natural and cultural (BELLA), and the INTERCONNECTNESS of all things on Earth (GAIA).
BELLA GAIA’s immersive experience successfully simulates the overview effect of space flight, helping audiences “discover what it’s like to be an astronaut” (Washington Post), and realize deeply, emotionally, that there IS something to lose, and therefore there IS something to preserve, to steward. It communicates a visceral flow of unencumbered beauty with supercomputer data-visualizations from NASA, visualizes human effects on the biosphere, and celebrates the power of human art and culture through live music and dance, with an “iridescent landscape of gossamer melodies and labyrinthine rhythms” (Nooga.com).
Inspired by astronauts who spoke of the life changing power of seeing the Earth from space, director-composer Kenji Williams developed the communication science in the “stunning” BELLA GAIA (Scientific American), leaving audiences with a transformative sense of wonder, and generating the elusive but critical emotional response: A Reason to Care.
