Brooklyn Belly Dance Classes at a new day and time! Saturdays 1:30-2:45pm
Learn all the essentials of bellydance technique! The focus of this class will be on proper posture, isolations and body lines. Each class will include movement drills and short, fun combinations. This class is perfect for new beginners with no experience as well as intermediate dancers who wish to further refine fundamental movement technique.

Contemporary Sword Fusion
The sword dance is traditionally used as part of an oriental dance show to display the dancer’s strength and skill and to convey a feeling of power and drama.
The narrative element of the prop lends itself beautifully to fusion. Mariyah will teach a fusion sword choreography featuring innovative ways of utilizing the sword in your dance. This workshop will invoke elements of the classic and timeless oriental dance performance while harnessing the innate power and grace of the sword itself for a martial feeling and dramatic approach. Technique emphasis will be on ways to use the sword creatively as well as balancing and exercises for fluid and strong floorwork for an effortless and dynamic performance.

ADVANCED BELLYDANCE with Mariyah
Learn complex combinations and choreographies in a variety of styles including cabaret-style Oriental dance, Tribal, folkloric and fusion. Concentrate on components for a 5 part solo performance, including entrance, intricate veil work, audience participation, taksim and drum solo. Emphasis will be placed on expanding emotional expression, different methods for improvisation and musical interpretation.
In this 5 week session we will be continuing the veil choreography from the previous session to prepare for December 17th’s Holiday Hafla!
Please bring a 3-4 yard silk veil.
5 week session begins November 22nd 7:30-8:30pm
$75 in advance/$80 at the door
$17/drop in class
